On May 9, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the start of a contract procurement process and a transition to new Recovery Audit Program contracts. CMS has already issued a request for quotes through the General Services Administration. CMS is seeking four A/B Recovery Auditors, one national Durable Medical Equipment auditor and one Home Health and Hospice Recovery Auditor.

In June, providers will see fewer Additional Document Requests (ADR), as the new program begins to transition. Although ADR requests will decrease, CMS does not plan to slow down other aspects of the auditing program. CMS has implemented a transition plan to minimize the amount of outstanding work that will transition to the new contracts.

Providers should be aware of the following:
  • Additional Documentation Requests (ADRs) will begin to decline in June 2013
  • All prepayment reviews will continue without decline
  • Post-payment manual therapy reviews will continue without decline

Providers should contact for questions concerning the transition.
Additional information will be posted to the Recovery Audit Program Website as it becomes available. You can monitor the site by clicking here.
