Rick Gilfillan, director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Innovation Center (CMMI), will leave the agency at the end of June. Gilfillan joined CMMI, which was created by the Affordable Care Act, in July 2010 and has led the agency's efforts on key health reform initiatives designed to test new care models, including accountable care organizations, bundled payments, independence at home, and health innovation awards. Prior to joining CMS, Gilfillan was CEO of Geisinger Health Plans. It is not known where Gilfillan will go next. Gilfillan will be temporarily replaced by Patrick Conway, currently the CMS Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality.
