On June 20, VNAA submitted comments on “Medicare Program: FY2014 Wage Index and Payment Rate Update; Hospice Quality Reporting Requirement; and Updates Payment Reform (CMS-1449-P).” VNAA has provided two summaries of the hospice regulation and prepared numerous Member Update and listserv messages. VNAA has also sought extensive input from members including a May 23 call with the Hospice Roundtable, a survey on quality measures and a June 18 call for final review of comments.

In the comments, VNAA repeatedly urges the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to take immediate action on underpayment of short stay patients. VNAA is also concerned that some proposed hospice quality measures may disadvantage providers who serve short stay patients.
