Soon, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be making important revisions to hospice reimbursement. Adjustments could be made for length of stay, quality, location of care and other factors. The Visiting Nurses Associations of America (VNAA) is intently lobbying for changes that will favor nonprofit hospices, as well as working to prepare members for possible changes.

On Oct. 14, Bob Simione, a nationally recognized financial expert with over 35 years' experience in home care and hospice, presented a comprehensive briefing to help nonprofit hospices better understand how recent and future changes will impact operations and financial viability. Simione also shared his recommendations on how agencies can create efficiencies and mitigate risks to survive and thrive.

Simione is the Managing Principal at Simione Consultants LLC, which conducts numerous workshops at the national and state level on audits, budgeting, cost reporting and fiscal management for both hospice and home health.

PowerPoint slides for Simione's presentation are now available for download here.
