Last week, Reps. Walden, Price, McGovern and Blumenauer released an important letter to express Congress' concern with CMS' proposed home health case mix cut and the proposed Value Based Purchasing penalty percentage. This letter is now being circulated across the House of Representatives, and a similar letter is expected to be released in the Senate soon, too. These letters can be very helpful in securing CMS' reconsideration of its proposed cut and penalty, so it's critical that our community do everything it can to urge lawmakers to add their names to this letter.
We are pleased to be partnering with the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, the Partnership for Quality Home Healthcare and state associations to gather signatures - here are key details:
- DEADLINE: This letter will be closed and sent to CMS on Sept. 2, so we need to gather as many signature commitments as possible over the August congressional recess.
- COORDINATION: We have created an online tool so that everyone can be on the same 'e-page' as lawmaker signatures are secured so that we don't made repetitive requests of the same office. To access the tool, please click here.
- OUTREACH: Please contact all U.S. House members who represent your district (Senate outreach will be kicked off shortly) - the online tool mentioned above (and accessible here) has every lawmaker's Washington, D.C. telephone number.
- MESSAGE: When contacting your Representatives, please convey a message such as the following:
A proposed regulation threatens to cut $350 million from the Medicare home healthcareservices upon which seniors in our community depend. Fortunately, a bipartisan group of lawmakers have written a 'sign-on' letter that calls for important corrections to this regulation before it is finalized. On behalf of all of us in the home health community as well as the frail seniors we serve, I am calling to request that Representative [NAME] add [his/her] name to this important letter. Signatures will be accepted until Sept. 2, so please act now to save home healthcare in our community. Thank you!
