Last week, we highlighted that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the public comment period for the modification of the Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) C2. Included in the changes to the OASIS-C2 document are three new standardized items, renumbering for items under ICD-10, consolidation of checkboxes, changes to the look-back period and changes to pressure ulcer staging.

CMS has estimated that it will take an average of 52.8 minutes to complete the OASIS-C2 assessment and it will require eight hours of ongoing training per agency yearly. However, in a recent statement, CMS mentioned it “has not calculated the additional burden associated with these items.” CMS is asking for agencies to comment on any burden estimates or other implementation estimates when it comes to collecting data associated with OASIS-C2 changes.

The comment period is open until May 31, and we encourage all VNAA member home health agencies affected by the proposed changes to weigh in with comments.  If you or your agency have any questions or need assistance with the submitting comments, please contact Vice President of Policy and Innovation Joy M. Cameron.
